Rolling River VBS Newsblast! Next week is VBS!!!

Hello to All!

We are so happy that your child/children will be attending Rolling River Vacation Bible School at John Knox Presbyterian Church, next week July 16-20.  We have 240 kids in grades Preschool – 8thGrade attending!  And we are blessed to have 100 volunteers helping make this VBS the best ever!  WOW!  We will be discovering the Bible Verse:  "When You Pass Through the Waters, I Will be With You"  Isaiah 43:2
And, all will learn that you can find Adventure, Acceptance, Joy, Rest and Peace on the River of Life!

Please read the following to help get you ready for this fun-filled week!  Reminder for the volunteer staff that there is a 9:30 a.m meeting. If you cannot make it - now worries, our team leaders will help connect you during VBS week.

Rolling River Kick-off Carnival ~

We invite you to join us for church at 9:30 a.m. All start out together for worship - and then kids will be excused for a fun Sunday School!!      Or join us just for the carnival!

There is no charge for the food and festivities, however, donations will be graciously accepted. This is also the perfect time to meet the VBS staff, pick up your VBS T-shirts, and also receive your family’s Music CD.  Dress casual for this fun day!

Rolling River VBS Wee ~ Monday - Friday

July 16-20 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Our Opening Assembly with songs and skits kicks off in the Sanctuary every morning at 9:00 a.m - you won't want to be late! We recommend that you arrive at 8:40 a.m. the first day so we can get your kids signed in. Go to the church courtyard and there will be signs to follow for check-in. We'll finish each day in your child's classroom at 12:30 p.m. Classroom info will be posted on campus.

What to Wear
Please wear your official Rolling River VBS T-shirt each day. You can pick up your VBS T-shirt at Sunday's July 15 Carnival or first thing Monday morning. The kids will be creating crafts and will also enjoy organized recreation games, therefore please make sure your child wears clothes that are comfortable and casual (and clothes that you don't mind if they get a little wet or dirty in!). Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times - please do NOT wear flipflops, or a shoe that your child will fall out of.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures

Children should be dropped off by their parents/guardians on campus every morning - do not drop off or pick up kids in the parking lot. All parents of children preschool through 5th grade will need to sign in or check in their kids in at the tables in the church courtyard. You will also be asked to sign out your children at their classrooms each day at pick-up at his/her classroom. If an older sibling (Middle School or older), grandparent, or anyone else will be picking up your child, please notify your child’s teacher in writing on the sign-in roster. Also, please drive slowly and look out for little ones in the parking lot.

Snacks/Allergies

Each day we will offer a delicious & VBS-themed inspired snack for the kids to enjoy. Please note that all kid & adult snacks are Nut-Free! We have food allergies noted on the staff rosters - but please contact teachers directly if you plan to provide them with an EpiPen. All of the EpiPens should be marked with the child’s name on them.  We’ll keep them in an emergency bag that will be right in the church office.  If you plan on bringing your child a snack due to dairy/gluten / or other allergy - please let me know - and please do NOT bring food items that contain nuts. We will be checking in with you before VBS if you wrote that your kids are gluten free/dairy free/etc., so that we can accommodate you as best we can. Thanks.

VBS Mission Projects

Our VBS mission will once again be collecting food for the Children's Emergency Food Bank, which is located right on the JKPC campus. Each student will receive a bag with a list attached stating the most needed non-perishable foods! This food will help people in need in Tri-Valley area.

We are also holding a Yogurtland Fundraiser on July 18! Just present a special flyer and 20% of your purchase will help the food bank.

We are also excited to have the Crayon Intiative as one of our new missions.  Start collecting your old and used crayons, and bring them to JKPC during VBS Week.  More than a half-million pounds of crayons are discarded annually throughout the U.S. That equates to roughly 60 million crayons! The Crayon Initiative collects used and unwanted crayons donated from homes, restaurants, schools and homes across the country, then melts them down and remanufactures them, reducing environmental waste. Better yet, the recycled crayons are distributed to art programs at children’s hospitals across the U.S., brightening the lives of young patients during their stay.

Middle School Students

Our 6th-8th graders will work as helpers in various classes, with recreation, or crafts part of each day. The remaining time they will attend VBS class with JKPC Youth Director, Bruce Byrne. We invite Middle Schoolers to attend Youth Group, Sunday, July 15 from 4 - 6:10 p.m. (High School meets from 5:50 - 8 p.m.) There will be games, snacks & we'll fill you in on VBS!

UPDATE:  There is also a special BBQ and Water Games Youth Group Time for Middle School and High School, and College kids on Sunday, July 22 from 4:30-7 p.m. right at JKPC.   (This will no longer be a pool party off campus)

Rolling River  VBS Musical Sunday and All Church Barbecue!

Sunday, July 22

We’ll conclude our amazing week with the Rolling River VBS Musical on Sunday, July 22 during the 9:30 a.m. church service. The children will share with you in skits & songs all that they have learned during VBS week! More info about this BIG day will be provided later.

There will also be an All Church Barbecue right after the musical - all are welcome! Barbecued Hamburgers/Veggieburgers (with grilled onions and mushrooms) , Chips, Watermelon and more! Once again, there is no charge, but donations will be graciously accepted. You'll be receiving more info and RSVP forms soon - this is a BIG day at JKPC - so we want to be prepared!

Sunday School

School Classes are offered every Sunday (except July 22) for children in Preschool (3 yrs.) – High School. On July 15 & 22 we will have the "Cry Room" open for little ones, since our regular nursery room will be decorated for VBS. The Cry Room has a monitor so that you can both see & hear the worship service.

During VBS week, make sure to visit our church websitewww.jkpcdublin.org to find out what your child has learned that day, as well as to enjoy pictures of the day's events!

Please email me with any questions you may have.  We are looking forward to an amazing week of sharing God's love with them.

Yours in Christ,

Nancy Polcyn, Family Ministries Director

Kim Kraft, VBS Director
